Return, Europe's leading independent energy storage provider, is delivering one of the largest battery energy storage systems (BESS) in Europe with the Mufasa project, developed under the Lion Storage brand. The project, which is expected to be operational in 2027, will be located in Vlissingen, in the North Sea Port, a key hub for renewable energy in the Netherlands. The grid connection in Borssele will be made to the connection of a former coal-fired power plant. This groundbreaking initiative is a significant step forward in strengthening European energy infrastructure and supporting the transition to renewable energy.

Project Mufasa will utilize Megapack 2 XL, Tesla's large-scale energy storage system. The batteries can charge and discharge 1,400 MWh multiple times a day with a capacity of 350 MW: sufficient to power over 200,000 households. As the largest BESS in the Netherlands and one of the largest energy storage projects in Europe, it sets a new standard for balancing and securing electricity grids.
